the state looks down on sodemy.

i love blink-182. this band seemed to strike a chord with my friends and i at a very impressionable age in our lives. no matter what band, or which friend i was jamming with, we always ended up playing a blink song or two. while the music was fun, my favorite thing about blink is/was their music videos. no one knew how to make a funny video like the mark tom and travis show did.
my personal favorite is 'Josie.' filmed by Darren Doane at Westlake High School, the video still makes me smile to this day. On a personal note, i could not stop telling mr doane how much i loved this video when i got to watch him film 'the waiting hurt' video in rogers bedroom some (9?)years ago. enjoy.

robot hand is the future.

I watched 'strange parallel this morning while kayli was playing guitar hero. she has almost beat every level on 'medium' now. she kills me every time, and its kind of a drag. heres a recent picture from disneyland.

and heres one of the most odd yet insightful documentaries ever made... It pales in comparison to "lucky three" .. but its definetly worth a watch.

just like my favorite song..

It's raining out. I love the rain. It could rain 366 days a year, and i would be the happiest guy in oxnard. I'm going to try and think of other things that make me happy now.

*kayli, when she doesn't use words( that are ok to say around dad), around Marissas aunts and grandparents. Shes a fan of the C-word.

Marissa surprised me with this last xmas. Coolest gift ever.

Here is every single EP elliott smith ever released. At least i know i could pay my rent for a month if i ever got fired.

(Others peoples) babys are nice. Especially when they have their own website.

they will kill us all without mercy.

Well, I am stoked. Not sure how, or why, but i scored, and i mean SCORED today on eBay.

One of my favorite bands over the last four years has been The Bronx, from here in LA. In general, I usually collect the vinyl of my favorite bands. But The Bronx are one of those bands who have their finger on the pulse of the vinyl collecting-nerd populous. Kids will pay a shit load of money for their "rare" records. But today, my stars-in-the-sky aligned.

The Bronx released 3 x 7" series entitled "The Social Club" with-in the last year. They are limited to 250 pressings each, and hand silk screened by the band. That basically = $$$ for Bronx collectors.

I have seen these 7" go for over $100 APIECE! (check Popsike.com if you don't believe me) I managed to win all 3 at once, in mint condition, for $22. (!!!) needless to say.. i am stoked out of my fucking mind. This is one of The Bronx collectors items I figured would be waaay to rich for my blood, especially with the wedding, and everything else coming up.

While we are on the topic of The Bronx.. I managed to also get their "Bats" limited edition picture disk recently, for dirt cheap. The last one i saw on eBay, went for $54... I bought this one of some guy in a BIN (buy it now) auction for $10.. wtf?

merry xmas to myself?

Speedo

So,I got my Night Marchers LP in the mail today. its purrrdy. p33p it.

"Dave Dee is no longer with us"

I am a huge Beatles fan. yeah, maybe you have heard of them. While John Lennon gets/deserves most of the songwriting credit, I make no secret of George Harrison being my favorite Beatles songwriter. Did you know 'I Me Mine' was recorded at Abby Road #2 after John had secretly left the band?
Anywho.. heres one of Georges finest pieces of work, I Me Mine, covered flawlessly by Elliott Smith. (This song was played as an encore during the 'full band' figure 8 tour in 2000, pre freak-out.) Someone buy me a TopHat Club Royale 2x12 plz.

last boat leaving.

This is a clip of Elliott during his support tour with Sebadoh, in 1996. He is covering 'last boat leaving' by elvis costello during a soundcheck. the only bummer is that this clip is only a minute.

synchronicity II

So as i await my fiance' to get home from the office so we can shlep our child to a dinner party, I figured I could sit at my mac, and literally hear myself begin to get fatter. I am having a lot of trouble with dieting; (i suck at it) and according to my shrink, it is causing me a lot of unnecessary anxiety. I am having visions of walking down the isle next year looking like Jeff Garlin. Ah well, lets talk records!

Earlimart is one of my favorite bands from LA. 'Treble and Tremble' is definitely their magnum opus and i highly recommend everyone picking it up. I have seen them about 5 times in the last couple years, and they get so much better every time.

Here is a picture of Aaron and myself taken a couple months back at Spaceland in Silverlake.

Here is a couple great 7" that they have released. 'Questions and Answers' was a limited EP released by Suicide Squeeze records a couple years back. The 2nd 7" is a teaser EP released by MajorDomo for the Hymn and Her LP titled 'Songs For' and is limited to 1000 copies.

Wanna talk an amazing 7"? The debut self-released EP (Tommy Gun Records) was released this year by Jeff Hershey and The Heartbeats. If you are reading this I am sure you are aware of the talent/local legend that is Yoon. Here is a picture of the 7" (pressing limited to 300) along with THE MOTHER FUCKING TEST PRESSING that Jeff was rad enough to give me. I love Jeff, and if you met him, there is not a doubt in my mind that you would leave your family for a shot to get into his pants.

sick sick sick.

Kayli is home sick today. She keeps making this intentional 'hacking' noise. When she is sick, she makes sure everyone within ear shot realizes it. Since this is sort of my faux vinyl archive blog, wanna see some cool records? ok then..

Rx Bandits - The Resignation LP
Probably one of my all time favorite records, by one of my all time favorite bands. I don't really think i am capable of saying nice enough things about them and/or their music.

The Night Marchers - Scene Report EP
This is a 'tour only' hand-stamped 7" made and sold only on the Night Marchers recent US tour. Very cool record.

Beach House- Used To Be EP (/1000 out of print.)
Found this little jem in the "punk" section at Salzers records for $4. This two piece band from baltimore is currently one of my favorite bands. They are coming back to LA next month supporting The Walkmen.

Hi, Again

So I started another blog. I'm not sure why. Well, maybe i do know. I am kind of a busy guy. Between my family, work, teaching skills at the paramedic program, and trying to plan a wedding without getting charged with some sort of felony, I want to keep my friends up to date on what i have been stoked on as of late.

So am I the only one who can't fucking stand Christmas? (thanks spellcheck for making sure i capitalized that word) The best part is pretending that i am "bummed out" for having to work Christmas day. I am at this great age where everyone has/is having a kid now. My fiance makes sure each-and-everyone of those little fuckers who we rarely see, gets some sort of gift. I don't mind that, except for the part of having 456 kids (in-laws) to purchases "cute outfits" for.

I will admit, my daughter loves, LOVES Christmas time. so it is a blast to see her excited. She is still writing letters to Santa, and i think we may be nearing the end of that road. Shes starting to get a tad suspicious. It's getting harder to make excuses why "Santa can't bring a puppy." The PETA injunction excuse seems to be working, so we are sticking with that for now.

Want to know what I have coming in the mail? Of course you do.

*The Night Marchers - See You In Magic. Limited Ed. colored /1000
*Ill Repute - What Happens Next? Mystic Records Repress, green /500
*Beach House - Devotion 2xLP
*Glass And Ashes - Aesthetic Arrest 1st pressing, White /105
*88 Fingers Louie - Behind Bars

fuck, i have probably bought 30 records in the last month. I do my best to put money back into this economy. Pics when they get here! :)
